ContestsBuild ‘em and Bring ’em! There will be six categories under which models can be entered: Locomotives and Rolling stock, Structures, Display (dioramas), Vehicles and Maintenance, Photography, and a special category: the Peanut Butter Lid Challenge. This last category is a special event we are introducing for this show. The objective is to build a diorama on the lid of a peanut butter jar (4 inch circle). It can be in any scale and depict any scene you wish. The only rules are that the base must be a peanut butter jar lid (or equivalent circular base no larger than 4 inches in diameter) and there must be at least one reference to railroading somewhere on the display. Awards will be given for 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place in each category as well as there will be an overall Best in Show award, a Top Lid award for the best Peanut Butter Lid diorama, and a Most Whimsical award for the most humorous model. For those of you that are active NMRA members and are working towards AP awards, NMRA AP judging will be available. Please note that if you wish to have your models judged for the AP program you will be responsible for preparing and bringing the appropriate paperwork (forms and requirement information available here) . Paperwork is only required if you plan on requesting AP judging. If you only wish to participate in the popular vote contest, NO paperwork is needed! contest room hours
The contest room will be open
10-5 on Saturday and 10-4:00 on Sunday. Models can be checked-in until noon
on Saturday. The contest area will be open for viewing from 10:00-3:00 on
Saturday and 10:00-3:00 on Sunday. Voting will begin when the doors open
so the sooner you get your model checked in, the sooner you can begin collecting
votes. All voting stops at 1:30 on Sunday. Votes will be counted and awards
will be displayed next to the winning models. Winners can pick up their
awards along with their models after 3:00 on Sunday. All models must be
picked up between 3:00 and 4:00 on Sunday. If you need to make special arrangements
to have your model picked up before 3:00, please let the staff know when
you check your model in. AP Judging hours will be from 3:00 to 5:00 on Saturday.
Viewing will not be allowed during NMRA Judging. All this information will
be posted at the contest desk during the show. This is your chance to share your work with friends and fellow hobbyists. Flex your creative muscle and have a little fun, take a chance and participate in the Peanut Butter Lid Challenge. See how creative you can be in a small space. We are looking forward to seeing your work at the show! More details about the contest can be found at the 4th Division web site http://www.4dpnr.org.
